Here are some tips for you when getting a chinchilla or you have a chinchilla but want to be a little wiser about it.

Chinchillas are very sneaky and can go into absolutely everything, and where you have paper or a pretty picture don't let the little one around it. You can always give them paper to chew but only ones that have no ink it, but it is not very wise to give them paper to chew since it has chemicals that might harm the animal. If you want them to chew on something wood is just find for the chinchilla but they love fresh wood.

When buy bedding for your chinchilla I prefer CareFresh Bedding it is very safe and it is also saves trees as well. It is 3.99$ US at PetS MART.
and 6.99$ CAN.

When trying to catch a chinchilla you must be very sneaky chinchillas are smart but to a point if you give the chinchilla a treat it probably wont ever take a treat out of your hand instead try different things just to make the chinchilla keep thinking what you are going to do next. But you should do it around the same time when it is time for your bed time. If you like me and love to play with chinchillas all day try to respect there time alone when they need to sleep, if the chinchilla doesn't get a good night sleep it probably be in a bad mood all day. If you have younger children don't let them go in until around 6 or when the chinchilla is playing around a bit because the children might be playing to actively and the chinchilla in it's head probably saying "must sleep, must sleep".

When you get a chinchilla for the first time you should make the chinchilla know you, and let the chinchilla sleep in the cage, I use to take my chinchilla out in the morning and he would sleep under my bed but the chinchilla would poop all over the place under there instead of in it's cage. It is much better for the chinchilla so it will like it's cage and go in and out when it feels like it. Also try to put the play toys in it's cage just in case it just climbs in the cage late at night and you want to go to bed. ^_~

For real good cages are Martin cages, I bought one a few weeks ago and I love it very nice but if you live in Canada it might cost alot for the exchange rate. They also have other cages for different pets as well. Click here to go to the Martin cage company.

If you do want a chinchilla as a pet and have other pets you should make sure that the pet can handle small pets, but there are some pets that chinchillas shouldn't be with Ferrets snakes and other reptiles need to be away from the chinchilla. All type of rodents are ok together, but it has to be what the animal is like as well.
